At the 11th hour of the 11th month, we will remember them.
Remembrance Day was once again commemorated in Canada’s Most Patriotic Village in the manner that has come to be expected in Arthur. Arthur Public School and St. John Catholic School students have been a big part of the Remembrance Day ceremonies for years. Kudos are extended this year to the staff and students at Wellington Heights Secondary School for being part of the commemoration of the end of the war.
As David Stack notes in a letter to the editor this week, as was duly mentioned in Karen Idzik’s coverage of Remembrance Day activities in the community, students placed crosses with the names of those who had fallen in war at the Arthur cenotaph on Nov. 11.
In Mount Forest, on Friday, high school students lined the parade route, reverently holding crosses with the names of those from the area who lost their lives in the world wars and past conflicts. It was a somber and very touching reminder of what the wars really meant to the community as many of the students holding the crosses are of the same age as those who left the community for foreign shores to ensure the freedoms we enjoy today.
We, in this area, remember.
