Tuesday evening the team travelled to Carlisle to meet up with Flamborough. I was unable to attend but was told they played an excellent game.
Noah Coffey started us off assisted by Taylor Quirke. Taylor scored twice in the first; assist credits go to Kyle Brunkard, Jordan Speers and Jack Bell.
Second period Arthur took a penalty, Gage Dyce spent some time in the box for body checking. Bell scored assisted by Quirke and Jayson Dowling.
Third period Dareian MacNeil and Jordan Speers both spent some time in the penalty box. With one second left on the clock Alex Gardner scored to make the final Arthur 5 Flamborough 2. Good game.
Flamborough
Friday evening Flamborough travelled to Arthur for the rematch. It was a very exciting game. Quirke scored early in the first assisted by Bell and Coffey. Quirke scored again assisted by Gardner. With less then two minutes in the first Flamborough scored. There was great action back and forth and the boys did a great job of passing the puck down the ice.
Second period Arthur applied the pressure and worked really hard at keeping Flamborough out of our end. Aaron Goetz had some great shots on net but was unable to find his mark. Coffey had a great shot and from where I was sitting it looked like it was in, unfortunately it went behind the net. With 21 seconds left in the second Flamborough scored to tie the game.
Third period Arthur cranked it up and really came on strong. The boys were hustling up and down the ice. Quirke scored his third of the evening to break the tie assisted by Coffey. Blake Lunn took a hooking penalty much to his mother's disapproval! MacNeil decided Blake needed some company and joined him a minute later. We were down to three on five. The Vipers really pulled together and thanks to Zach Benham for helping out on defence. There were some tense moments but the team managed to kill the penalties. With two minutes left MacNeil went to the penalty box for interference. Flamborough pulled their goalie to take a two-man advantage but the Vipers pulled together and we finished with a 3 -2 victory. Once again it was an exciting game.
Dundas
On Saturday we travelled to Dundas. The first period once again was fast and lots of action. Both teams had a number of shots on net. With three minutes left in the first Dundas slipped one past Kyle Speers. The second period the boys were really playing hard we were working the puck out of our end but not having much luck getting past the Dundas goalie. Gardner had some really great shots but couldn't put one away. Jordan Speers got a hold of the puck and did some great stick handling around the Dundas player and scored a beauty of a goal, it was unassisted. In the second period we also spent our share of time in the penalty box. It seemed to be somewhat one sided but it was great to see the team rise above it. Brunkard was in the box and it wasn’t long until the bench took a penalty, Coffey served it. Once again we had three on five. Benham again stepped back on defence to help out and the team did a great job of holding Dundas off. We again had the same situation in the third and Dundas was able to score the go ahead goal. With four minutes left to play Wade Green was off to the penalty box for boarding less then a minute later Dyce joined him for tripping. Once again we were down two players and held strong. When Wade made his way out of the box he made a great pass to Quirke, Quirke missed the shot but Bell was able to smack the rebound away. We finished with a tie. Kyle Speers did an amazing job in net. I am not sure how many shots he faced but I know he seen a lot of rubber. Once again it was an exciting game.

Friday evening the Atom Vipers played against Erin/Hillsburgh.
Apparently the boys had a fan (teacher) in the stands and were going to ensure he witnessed the true spirit of “Viper Hockey”.
In the first period Aaron Goetz had a nice breakaway to which Erin/Hillsburgh player decided the only way to stop him was to throw his stick at him.
