On October 24 the Novice Vipers hosted Centre Wellington. It was a tough match up where Arthur was defeated by a score of 5-1.
The Viper’s regular goalie was out sick so Brody Lougheed stepped up into the position. Brody had big skates to fill but he did a good job in net stopping some hard shots. Arthur’s lone goal was scored by Dessy Prendergast and assisted by Dylan Richardson and Ryan Goetz.
Acton
October 25 had the Vipers at home again facing Acton. Although a virus had decimated the team’s numbers leaving the Vipers with only seven skaters plus a goalie, the players managed to play an excellent, and very exciting game. In the end Acton prevailed beating Arthur 3-1.
After a scoreless first period, Acton scored their first and second goals in the second period. Arthur’s only goal came with five minutes remaining in the game. It was a beautiful backhanded shot by Quincy Alexander. Bryan Richardson got the assist. In the last minute of play Acton took advantage of the fact that the Vipers had pulled their goalie and slid in the final goal.
Brody played an outstanding game in net. Defencemen Jacob Bauman, Joel Richardson and Bryan, who also played centre during this game, did an exceptional job keeping Acton from shooting on their net as well as clearing the puck out of the zone. Forwards Dessy, Quincy and Liam Koebel did a great job moving the puck up the ice and creating scoring opportunities. Centreman Dylan Richardson and Bryan worked tirelessly to get the puck into Acton’s end as well as helping out the defense when they needed it. With such a short bench the players had very little rest with some of them sitting only once briefly each period. The determination the team showed was amazing.
The Novice Vipers’ next home game is November 1 at 3:30 against Orangeville. Hopefully all the players will be feeling better and the team will be playing with a full roster again.

Friday evening the Atom Vipers played against Erin/Hillsburgh.
Apparently the boys had a fan (teacher) in the stands and were going to ensure he witnessed the true spirit of “Viper Hockey”.
In the first period Aaron Goetz had a nice breakaway to which Erin/Hillsburgh player decided the only way to stop him was to throw his stick at him.
