The Arthur and District Historical Society is one of three Wellington County groups to receive funding from Farm Credit Canada through the FCC AgriSpirit Fund.
The Arthur group received $6,000 towards more murals for the town, as well as lighting for these murals.
The group has already unveiled one mural, on the side of the former registry building at the south end of the main street.
A second mural is planned for the north side of the Sussman’s building, at the corner of Frederick and the main street, so those entering town from the north can view it. That one will represent the Jones Baseline, which was ordered surveyed by Lord Simcoe from Hamilton to the Grand headwaters, ending in Arthur, although it should have gone further north, according to Arthur and District Historical Society President Ian Turner. He said the funding for this mural was received through Aboriginal groups and the Upper Grand District School Board, and will feature those who surveyed the road, which all the townships are now based on. They are planning on starting work on this mural in the spring.
