Members of the Arthur Agricultural Society had lots of work to do at their annual meeting on Saturday, Jan. 23.
Jen McFadden, president of the Society, spoke about the Volunteer Appreciation Night, set for Friday, March 5.
She asked members to list their volunteers on a sheet of paper so they could be contacted for the evening.
She said the Board members would be doing all the cooking to save money, and have someone else serve the meal.
Charlie Twiss suggested some of the 4-H members could do the serving, and assist with the clean-up.
Additional tables and wagons have been arranged for this year’s fair.
McFadden said Drayton has offered to loan then some 8-foot tables.
She said Ken Bewick has the makings for the new wagons, and is looking for some assistance to finish them.
Pat Hooker reported that they are looking at material for the tables for the fair. She said they are looking at white broadcloth on top and red across the fronts.
A budget of $800 was placed on the purchase of the material and anything else needed for the project.
An item was added to the budget, which is $2,500 for a golf cart.
A theme for 2011 was chosen – and it will be “From Generation to Generation.”
Other choices for the theme included: Stars of Agriculture in Arthur; Showing Industries in Arthur; and Agriculture and Industry.
The group broke for a pot-luck lunch, and then started their business meeting again.
Reports were given by the Fair Ambassador Kelsey Hall, and President Jen McFadden.
A new executive was chosen, including Jennifer McFadden as President; Pat Brown as 1st Vice; Lisa Stroszka as 2nd Vice; Lisa Stroszka as Secretary; and Chris McIntosh as Treasurer.
Service Awards were handed out to those with long service including: Mary Slater, 30 years; Janice Walsh, 20 years; Jean Smith, 20 years; Robert Macdonald, 15 years; Debra Hospes, 10 years; and Evelyne Near the Agricultural Service Diploma.
