Tuesday January 12 the Atom Vipers were home to Flamborough. It sure was nice having Darcy in the time box announcing all the plays.
Kyle Speer was out sick so we called up Ryan Plat a.k.a. Platsee. Thanks Ryan you did a great job in net for us. The boys took to the ice with a spring in the skate and on fire they wanted another win. Flamborough wasn't going to stand by and watch us out skate them and they too were playing hard. We seemed to have the puck in their end more times then not but were having trouble putting one past the netminder. With five minutes left in the first Taylor Quirke took the puck for a nice skate it was a beautiful unassisted goal. With 18 seconds left Wade Green gave us a nice 2–0 lead. Assist credit goes to Aaron Goetz.
Second period the boys played an amazing defensive game it was great to watch them passing the puck out of our end as well as the awesome job they all did defensively. Zach Benham had some great shots from the blue line. Gage Dyce took a penalty in the second and the team really rallied to kill off the penalty and keep the game at a 2–0 score.
Third period was much like the second, great hockey was being played. Blake Lunn took a tripping penalty and gave Flamborough a power play to which they took advantage and scored. Three minutes later Flamborough responded again to tie the game. With four minutes left Goetz scored the winning goal assisted by Alex Gardner. Great game boys!
Friday night we were back at it against Fergus 2. With Kyle Speer back in net the boys took to the ice hungry for another win. First period was well played and we had some great opportunities but were unable to score.
Second period Fergus started to play physical and the boys had three power plays. Alex, Blake, Noah, Aaron, Taylor, Jayson, Wade and Jack had some great scoring opportunities but once again the Fergus goalie was making the saves! With two minutes left in the second Gardner scored assisted by Dyce.
Third period Fergus again playing physical and we took a couple of penalties as well. Quirke took off with the puck and scored a beautiful goal unassisted. With 23 seconds left on the clock Jordan Speer sent one sailing from the blue line, I don't think the goalie even seen it coming, assist credit goes to Dyce. I think he redeemed himself after riding the pines. Good game boys.
This marked the end of regular season and we are awaiting to see if we are off to Cayuga or Langton lets hope this unseasonably nice winter weather holds out for those drives. I believe we finished in second place well done Vipers.
