An experienced municipal politician, John Matusinec is ready to continue working hard for Wellington North.
Matusinec filed his papers last week, and is seeking a return to his seat as a councillor for Ward 4. With more than 20 years as a public utilities commissioner in Arthur, Matusinec has filled a council seat since the township’s amalgamation, running successfully in one election and being acclaimed twice to council.
“Everything that has happened in the township I am quite proud of,” said Matusinec, citing the building of a new pool in Arthur, and a new sports complex in Mount Forest as major accomplishments.
Matusinec said he is pleased with all the hard work and results garnered by the Wellington North Economic Development Committee, along with improvements to water and sewer systems to meet with the stringent new regulations.
“I feel we have a lot of projects we started, and I would like to see them completed,” Matusinec said of his impetus to run in this fall’s election.
He said the major projects Wellington North has undertaken in recent years have created debt, and he would like to “see it through” and see that debt eradicated for the taxpayers.
Moving forward, Matusinec would like to see a new works building completed in Arthur, along with a new lagoon to increase sewage capacity in the village. He said he would also like to continue work on roadways in both the rural and urban areas to get them into better repair.
He said he will continue to encourage new industry and business to locate in Wellington North, because new jobs and an increase in the tax base is important to the growth and vitality of the township.
“I think that our council has worked very hard and very well,” said Matusinec. “I think we have accomplished a lot, and I hope to continue that.”
