I went to camp this week.
Camp Galbraith is a camp organized by Optimist Club for children ages five to 13.
When I arrived I was surprised by the authentic condition of the property -- 20 acres of habitable land and 100 acres of bush, situated between Milverton and Listowel.
It was refreshing to witness the enthusiasm of the 15 staff members greeting the kids as they got off their buses, which they had boarded in their various hometowns including Arthur, Mount Forest, St. Marys and Mitchell.
The campers and camp counsellors begin each day meeting in the pavilion to sing well-known camp songs and get in the mood for what the day has in store.?They then branch off into their assigned groups to kayak in the spring-fed pond, play basketball, swing on the rope course or do crafts.
It was nice seeing the counsellors talking and playing with all the kids and how all the campers got along with kids from other towns as if they’d known each other their entire lives.
The mood of Camp Galbraith is definitely adventurous, but laid back in a way that the kids know they don’t have to rush and that they will have enough time in the week to try the things they want to try.
Having experienced the charm of Camp Galbraith, and hearing only positive remarks from the kids, I’m confident that this camp will only increase in popularity next summer, starting the third week of July.
