If you like water, and you like sweets, then you should try KiKi Maple Sweet Water.
Arthur entrepreneur B. Keith Harris, owner of Troll Bridge Creek, produces the natural water locally.  It is the pure liquid collected from the sugar and black maple trees, which is literally “filtered by nature.”
KiKi has only two to three percent sugar and a light maple flavor. It is also 100 per cent natural, with no additives and no preservatives. It contains over 80 nutrients and is low in calories with no fat.
The word KiKi comes from the Japanese words for Tree and for Life Energy. They just happen to be pronounced the same.
The product also comes in Lemon Mint Maple Sweet Water and Lemon Ginger Maple Sweet Water.
Harris started thinking about the venture around two and half years ago. He was joking with his family about the possibility, and later his brother brought him a bottle of “Maple Water”, which was just water with some maple syrup added.
In March of 2009, Harris got five gallons of maple water, direct from the tree, and bottled it in his kitchen using a coffee filter.
He put together a business plan, and did lots of research. He said he called several business people who are successful to get advice. He joked he could learn from their mistakes.
He quit his job at Musashi so he could concentrate on his new business.
His product is currently available in around 50 retailers in Ontario, including several local ones that are big supporters of his product. Biggest supporters are the Fountain Head in Fergus, Frabberts in Fergus, the Harvest Table in Parker, and Chicory Common in Durham.
Harris said he’s getting a good response from the stores.
He said one cool thing about his product is that it provides a new cash crop for many local farmers. They can sell him the maple water without spending hours boiling it down into maple syrup.
Harris describes the water as “a refreshing drink that will do you no harm.”
He said it is hard to run a year-round business with maple water, because the water has to be stored clean and cold.
Harris said it is only a matter of time before more people get into the business, but he’s counting on staying a year ahead of everyone else.
He hopes to get into British Colombia in the near future, and is also aiming for the Asian countries.
The maple water, he said, has similar properties to coconut water, but is harvested in Canada.
The mint water has several medicinal qualities, including relieving symptoms of indigestion, heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome, and cramps. It also acts as a powerful antioxidant, and inhibits the growth of many different types of bacteria and fungus. It also helps to relieve the symptoms of colds, flu, and nasal allergies.
The ginger water has different medicinal qualities, including relieving nausea, pain, cramps, and stimulates circulation. It also helps to relieve swelling, congestions, and cold symptoms.
Ginger has been known to delay the symptoms of motion sickness.
