In life everybody wants fully satisfying, but sometimes you just have to settle for semi-satisfying. And so it was for the Arthur Juvenile Vipers at the International Silver Stick Tournament in Mooretown this past weekend as they reached the semi-finals before bowing out to East Lambton in a frustrating game.
The Vipers got off to a great start on Thursday night as they tackled Wainfleet to get things going. While it took them a little while to get to full speed soon they found their legs. Big centre Matt Byne starts the scoring taking a feed from Josh
Wilson and burying it. Shortly after defenceman Tyler Wilson makes a daring rush and scores. Wainfleet answers back and it looks like they might be turning the tables but the Vipers catch fire. Goals from Nick
Hodgson with assists from Nolan Tone and Luke Raftis and Drew Shaw from Jeremy Langdon seal the 4-2 victory and give the Vipers eight points in the standings.
I should explain how the deal works in Mooretown. There are 10 teams in the “C” division that Arthur competes in. Four will go on to the semi’s so every point counts, one to tie a period, two to win a period and four for a win.
Next game on Friday afternoon saw Norwood as the opposition. Arthur jumps all over them early as Jeremy scores on passes from Dakota Kruger and Jackson Hostrawser, then Kruger gets one of his own on a pass from Scotty Harwood. Norwood finds their legs and ties it before the end of the period for a split of the points.
