The Peewee #1 team travelled to Cambridge on June 16 with 11 players. I have to tell you the score right away because the Aces totally shut Cambridge down and their opponent had more penalty minutes than the Aces did. The scoring looked like this: Matti Epoch, with help from Cole Hodgins and Jake Mulder started the scoring early in the first period. Then Owen O’Donnell scored unassisted followed by Jacob Brownson. Into the second period, Jacob Brownson, scored his second for the night assisted by Dareian McNeil. A few minutes later Jason Nauta received a sweet pass from Blake Lewis advancing Arthur’s score. The scoring continued in the third period. Epoch started the scoring again with one unassisted goal, followed by Nauta, assisted by Alex Kieffer. As the time ran down, the Aces finished off the period with goal by Brownson with the help of Hodgins. Owen O’Donnell scored a goal that was hardly detected by anyone even their goalie. Then Lewis finished the scoring after receiving a pass from Tristin Strub for a final score of 10–0.
Goalie Easton Bieman blocked everything that came his way – great work!
The coach’s comments were “Even though we were short one of our players (Jorden Reaman) and our opponent’s bench was full, we played strong the entire game. All the boys got in on the action tonight.”
The team then took part in a tournament held in Caledon East on the weekend of June 18–20. They played their first game on the Friday night versing the Caledon #1 team and came up one goal short at the end of the game. The final score was 5–4. Scoring for the Aces were Nauta, assisted by Brownson. Epoch assisted by Kieffer. They played again on Saturday morning against Clarington #2 and experienced a loss of 6–2. Scoring for Arthur was O’Donnell and Reaman. Reaman was assisted by Mulder.
Their final game of the tournament was against Hamilton #2 and beat them 9–2. Scoring for Arthur was O’Donnell for four goals, Reaman for four goals and Mulder for one goal. Assisting the goals were O’Donnell, Lewis and Nauta.
It is will great sadness to report that we will be playing without Tristin Strub for the remainder of this year. Unfortunately, Tristin is battling leukemia. The team, coaching staff and all the parents are continually reminded of him and he will be missed in the line-up this season. The team is thinking of you Tristin and they are playing for you. Get Well Soon.
