The last week of school was a busy one for the Peewee #1 Aces as they played two away games. The first one was in Owen Sound on June 29. After two periods of playing, we were behind by a score of 6–4. The third period was a goal by goal game. We pulled up to five goals and then they scored. The pattern continued as such leaving us trailing by one goal each time. Once we reached a score of eight, we were finished. The Owen Sound team got a few more goals and the game ended with a score of 12–8. The Aces had some great shots and all worked hard throughout the entire game. Blake Lewis moved at lightening speeds scoring three times that night – once unassisted and then also assisted by Jason Nauta and Dariean McNeil as another time by Jorden Reaman. Jorden was on the scoreboard for two goals assisted by Nauta and McNeil and McNeil and Owen O’Donnell respectively. Jacob Brownson got one goal assisted by Jake Mulder and O’Donnell completed the scoring assisted by Alex Kieffer and Mulder.
The next night the boys travelled to Guelph to play against the Regals. Although I was at this game I was told by those who were that our boys played their game very well. At the end of the first period we were down by a score of 3–0 but by the end of the second we tightened the reins and trailed by only one goal (4–3). Both teams scored twice in the third for a final score of 6–5 for Guelph. Scoring for Arthur was Nauta with three – nice work! Nauta was assisted by Matti Epoch twice as well as Kieffer and Lewis. Lewis was on the scoreboard again with the help of Nauta for one and Brownson got one unassisted goal.
Easton Bieman worked his magic in the net during both games and was helped greatly helped by the defence players.
The coach’s comments from both these games were “The boys played well! There were lots of penalty minutes but good scores”.
Peewee Player – Tristin Strub makes a special appearance at the PW1 game.
The team was overwhelmed to see their teammate Tristin at their last season game played in Arthur on July 12. The boys versed the Centre Wellington 1 team and it was quite a game. The boys lost 8-1. O’Donnell scored Arthur’s only goal with an awesome backhand shot over his shoulder! Goalie Bieman blocked several shots and played a hard game in net. The Aces however, appeared to still have their heads in the dunk tank they were part of this past weekend! The team took part in the “Toonies for Tristin” fundraiser that parents Barb Hodgins and Penny Lewis organized. They made a large poster of Tristin and a Get Well Card for everyone to sign. The highlight of the event included a dunk tank which was set up at the Holstein Rodeo this past weekend. The boys on both Peewee teams, as well as other dignitaries from the area took a seat on the dunk tank and for those that made a donation got three chances to dunk the lucky recipient.
At the end of the game, the team, parents and family members met with Tammy, Adam, Tristin and Riley as coach Paul Epoch presented them with the money that was made in the “Toonies for Tristin” fundraiser. Again the support shown from the community was unbelievable and the Strub’s expressed their appreciation for everything that has been done for them and their family. If you have chance please visit the Arthur Minor Lacrosse website to view the photos Donna Green took while at the Holstein Rodeo.
We hope to see you at the arena again soon Tristin. The team will start their playoffs the week of July 19 and will be practicing this week in preparation for their playoffs and the Provincials.
