Last Friday night saw the Atom girls in Minto for the opening game of their year end tournament. Their first game opponent was the third place team in the league, Minto Crush. Arthur looked ship, shape and ready to roll but Minto had something to prove and came out on top giving the girls a 20-7 loss. Even with some unbelievable catches by Shannon and Aylene that put the crowd in awe or back to back solo homeruns by Lylie and Jess things just didn't fall together in the end. Our player of the game was our only pitcher for this game who was Jess with 5 strikeouts, a great play at the plate to prevent a run and one monster homerun! That loss meant that they would be starting their day at 11:30 against Drayton/Moorefield. Arthur's bats came to play with triples from Jilly, Jess and Paige and a 3-run bomb from Gabby! Great plays on defense by Josey, Aylene, Gabby and Paige kept us strong and even with a tough time on the mound the girls were able to survive in a nail-biting 19-16 win. Our player of the game was Gabby with a  great toss in the field, some awesome heads-up base running and one giant homerun to cash in 3! After that the girls only got 15 minutes of rest before playing their next game against Mt. Forest. A pretty convincing win saw the girls take the game 17-10. Our bats were hot again with doubles from Jess and Josey, a triple from Gabby, a 2-run smash by Grace and and a grandslam from Jess! Shannon and Jillian lead the defense with both girls making terrific plays to stop the runners in their tracks and Jess pitched a solid game doing both innings and striking out 6! Our players of the game were Shannon and Jilly who both made 2 amazing plays in the field and both got a well hit single. With the win the girls only got 30 minutes until their game against Minto. It was a do or die situation, a loss and the girls were going home but a win would mean the girls would play Minto again{ Because you have to lose two to be put out and Minto hasn't lost any} for the championships! The girls knew how important this game was and they showed it. Our pitchers for the game, Paige and Jess, were throwing the heat which was key in keeping the game close. Jess, Shannon and Paige all were making some great plays in the field, capped off by Josey making a great tag at the plate to pick up the out. Lots of hits went to the Twisters including many great singles by Sheyanne, chega double by Paige, triples by Gabby, Hannah and Josey and a 3-run homer by Lylie! A heart-stopping game finished up 13-11 in favour of the Twisters! Our player of the game was Josey who played super on defence and brought in the winning run with her triple! With that win and 15 passing minutes the girls were begining the no doubt championship game. The girls were starting off by showing some D with some unbelieveable catches to keep the game even. The girls picked their pitches and took many walks when they were their leaving the heavy hitting to Josey who nailed a triple and a 2-run homerun! Then it came down to Minto's last bat, Arthur needed to prevent Minto from getting any runs to win the game. It was nerve wracking but with two outs Jess robbed Minto of a line drive to end it. The Arthur Atom Girls were named the 2010 ISA Champions! An amazing year by each and every player on the team and a big thank you to coaches John Rooney and Shirley Coffey. Way to go girls, you rocked!
